THERION Release Three Hour Rock Opera "Beloved Antichrist"
There's ambitious and then there's this. While epic concept albums aren't a new idea in symphonic metal it's doubtful any band has gone to the lengths Therion have on their latest release Beloved Antichrist. The "album" is a rock opera inspired by the book A Short Tale Of The Antichrist by Russian author Vladimir Soloviov. It's comprised of 46 tracks split into three acts that run over three hours long and features 30 unique vocalists. One for each character in the story.
Therion bandleader Christofer Johnsson first began writing a traditional opera 15 years ago but eventually decided to make it a rock opera which he felt was more in line with his skill set. It's quite the interesting listen with the vibe strongly resembling a traditional opera but in a modernized way with the metal instrumentation and all English lyrics. The band plans to make a full live production for the opera once they figure out how to finance this beast. Until then the recorded version is available for purchase and streaming and some of the music videos for the album can be viewed below.
