Neue Deutsche Harte (New German Hardness) pioneers OOMPH! return with their 13th album Ritual and the record throws little in the way of curve balls that would turn away long time fans. What it does do is maintain the quality industrial metal songwriting that has given the band the long career they’ve enjoyed.

The record opens heavy with the chuggy “Tausend Mann und ein Befehl” (A Thousand Men And One Order) that features a swinging rhythm and a big melodic chorus. “Kein Liebeslied” (No Love Song) is another highlight with a driving stomp to its rhythm and a catchy build to its raspy voiced hook. “Europa” ups the epicness with subtle keys in its verses and chanting choral samples in its chorus and bridge.

OOMPH! is one of those bands that manages to keep their music quality despite not changing the formula much. And if you’re a longtime fan wanting more of the style the band is known for, then Ritual is a safe bet to satisfy your ears.

Score: 3.5/5
