Cello Rockers LUNG Premiere Odd "Butcher" Video, Announce Album

Indie electric cello rock duo Lung have released their first music video "Butcher" through New Noise Magazine. The track is the first song released from their upcoming sophomore album All The King's Horses; due out September 7, 2018 via SofaBurn Records. Having formed in April 2016, the duo of cellist/vocalist Kate Wakefield and drummer Daisy Caplan are known for their energetic live shows and heavy touring schedule. And released their debut album Bottom Of The Barrel in March 2017. The music video features a lot of odd imagery. Commenting on the video Wakefield says:

I’m super excited that we are releasing this as our first music video. I was a huge fan of music videos growing up – loved videos by Chris Cunningham in particular – and have been hesitant to make one because I wanted to create a video that meant something to me. We recorded ‘Butcher’ this past winter and the song reflects the stir crazy insanity that you feel in your own skin – surrounded by your own life – growing up feeling like you are the weirdest person on Earth and like you just need an escape. When I sat down to write the video treatment, I just let my imagination go a bit wild. I wanted to create images that reflected the hilarity of being human, with a bit of the grotesque edges of it thrown in there as well. I wanted to create different narratives that intertwined: the bizarre woman in the bathtub surrounded by her imaginary blindfolded tea party, the 2 suburban women in the picnic scene-first introduced as bored and ordinary- but then when you get to know them a bit, you delve into their alter egos and their dream selves, and also a bit of my own reality-Rachelle, Daisy and I getting into ridiculous arguments in front of the first van we toured in. The cardboard television section of the video is influenced and inspired both by my favorite movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch’s video for “Wig in a Box” as well as ShellShag’s shag-o-vision television set. We love Shellshag and think their show is one of the coolest youtube programs out there. When we were thinking about who we wanted in the video, we ended up picking a bunch of folks from our local Cincinnati music scene-both people who go out to shows, local photographers who we’ve worked with, and bands that we really like. Even our friend who shot the video, Patrick Hague, is in a band I love (Moira). The day of filming was particularly fun. We did it super DIY – shot it at Daisy and Rachelle’s house – and made all of the sets ourselves. Rachelle Caplan, one of my best friends and a brilliant artist/activist did the makeup, costumes, and art direction. I’m happy with how it all turned out and think it’s a good representation of the vibe of the song.

The band is currently touring through Oregon, Washington, and Montana. The video for "Butcher" can be seen below.
