"Universe Of Kings" By Adashore (Salt Lake City, UT)/Metalcore/Released Dec 2015
Adashore is a metal band that hails from Salt Lake City, Utah. Formed in early 2015 the group has swiftly rose to prominence in their region and have shared the stage with bands such as I, The Breather and fellow Salt Lake City band Chelsea Grin. In December 2015 the group released their debut EP “Universe of Kings” which was produced by Chelsea Grin drummer/vocalist Pablo Viveros.
The group blends the aggressive sounds of metal and hardcore with melodic hooks in their choruses that gives them a contrast similar to bands like A Day To Remember. The guitar work is very rhythmic with more focus on heavy chugg riffs than melodic leads and the lead guitar work that is utilized acts more as atmospheric icing on the cake rather than a driving force behind their sound. Frontman Tyler Rollins possesses a tenor singing range alike to Vic Fuentes of Pierce The Veil and balances this out with his more often used growled and screamed vocals.
“Universe Of Kings” is a five track EP that features guest spots from other Salt Lake City musicians such as Steve Lopez from the band Away At Lakeside and Pablo Viveros from Chelsea Grin who also produced the EP. Opening the record is “Behemoth” which lives up to its title. An uptempo chuggy rocker that’s equal parts aggressive and melodic. “Tiger VS Rhino”, which features Steve Lopez’s guest vocals, is one of the EP highlights with a mosh-worthy groove and one of the most infectious choruses of the disc. The title track is possibly the most melodic effort of the album with melodic guitar and clean vocals being central to the track. “Machine Hearts” features Chelsea Grin’s Pablo Viveros near the end of the track and is overall another very melodic song for the disc. Closing the EP on a more aggressive note is “Paper Street” which matches the heaviness of the first two tracks while still maintaining the band’s trademark of catchy choruses featuring one of the best of those on the record.
Adashore has been rising in popularity quickly and for good reason. “Universe Of Kings” is a very strong debut created under the guidance of an experienced producer and mentor in Pablo Viveros. The blend of metal grooves with pop choruses make the group easy for more melodic rock fans to get into and can act as a gateway for listeners into metal’s more extreme genres. “Universe Of Kings” is an excellent first chapter of Adashore’s story that any metal fan should give a listen to.
